energy even when they are NOT turned on. Thus many people end up using/wasting energy when

Any device that shows and displays numbers or has a light or feels warm even when off (but
connected to a power source) or any device that has a remote control is considered a phantom
device. You can save by simply unplugging many of those devices. At one location we noticed a
customer had around 30-40 of such devices plugged in but not used.

"Phantom energy can account for about 10 percent of a residential home’s electricity use. It
might not sound like much, until you consider that eliminating that 10 percent is like getting over a
month of free electricity every year!"
